A New Dawn support
Getting started
When you first open A New Dawn, the onboarding screen asks for a few details:
- Quit date — the date and time you smoked your last cigarette. If you’re quitting today, set it to now.
- Cigarettes per day — how many you smoked before quitting. Used to calculate cigarettes avoided.
- Pack size — the number of cigarettes in a pack (typically 20).
- Pack cost — what one pack cost you. Used to calculate money saved.
After completing onboarding, you’ll be prompted to purchase A New Dawn Unlock (£8.99 / $9.99, one-time). Once unlocked, the main tabs appear immediately.
Changing my quit date
Open the Settings tab and tap Edit profile. You can update your quit date, cigarettes per day, pack size, and pack cost at any time. All counters recalculate immediately when you save.
If you relapsed and have a new quit date, update it here. Your craving log history is kept separately and is not affected.
Purchasing and restoring
To purchase: Tap “Unlock for £8.99” on the paywall screen that appears after onboarding. The purchase is processed by Apple. You are charged once and access never expires.
To restore on a new device or after reinstalling: Open the app and tap “Restore purchases” on the paywall screen, or open the Settings tab and tap “Restore purchases” there. As long as you are signed in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase, access will be restored at no charge.
Family Sharing: A New Dawn does not currently support Family Sharing for in-app purchases.
Milestone notifications
A New Dawn tracks 15 health milestones from 20 minutes to 10 years smoke-free. When you enable notifications (in Settings → toggle “Milestone notifications”), iOS will ask for notification permission and then schedule a local notification for each upcoming milestone.
These notifications are generated entirely on your device — no server or internet connection is needed to deliver them. If you update your quit date, notifications are automatically rescheduled.
To disable all notifications, toggle off “Milestone notifications” in Settings, or go to iOS Settings → Notifications → A New Dawn.
Widgets
A New Dawn offers four widget sizes:
- Small Home Screen — shows days smoke-free and money saved.
- Medium Home Screen — shows days, hours, money saved, and cigarettes avoided.
- Lock Screen (rectangular) — shows days, hours, and minutes smoke-free.
- Lock Screen (circular) — shows smoke-free days as a compact reading.
To add a widget: Long-press on your Home Screen, tap the “+” button, search for “A New Dawn”, and choose your size. For Lock Screen widgets, long-press the Lock Screen and tap Customise.
Widgets update automatically every minute. If a widget appears stale, open the main app briefly — this refreshes the data and triggers a widget reload.
Apple Watch app
The A New Dawn watch app installs automatically when you install A New Dawn on your iPhone (if you have an Apple Watch paired). It has three tabs you can swipe between:
- Timer — your smoke-free day count in large text, with hours and minutes below.
- Stats — money saved and cigarettes avoided.
- Craving — a 5-minute countdown timer with haptic feedback when time is up.
The watch app reads your quit date and settings from the shared container automatically — no separate setup is needed on the watch.
If the watch app shows “Open A New Dawn to start”, open the iPhone app once to sync your data to the watch.
Craving toolkit
A craving typically peaks within 3–5 minutes and then passes. The Craving tab starts a 5-minute countdown when you tap the button. Focus on the timer and ride out the urge.
On Apple Watch, the Craving tab is available on your wrist so you can start the countdown without reaching for your phone. A haptic notification fires when the 5 minutes is up.
The History tab in the main app shows a log of every time you used the craving toolkit and how often cravings occur over time.
Currency and cost settings
During onboarding, A New Dawn sets the currency to the region configured on your iPhone. To change currency or update your pack cost, go to the Settings tab and tap Edit profile.
The money saved figure is calculated as: (cigarettes avoided ÷ pack size) × pack cost. It updates in real time as your smoke-free time increases.
My data and privacy
Your quit date and smoking profile are stored locally on your iPhone using SwiftData. Nothing is sent to Whiteforge. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit — no third-party service receives any payment, receipt, health, or personal data. See the full privacy policy for detail.
To delete all your data, delete the app from your iPhone. If you have iCloud Backup enabled, your data may be included in your device backup; you can manage or delete backups in iCloud settings.
